Maintenance Tips

After proper installation, routine care for your appliances is of the utmost importance to keeping your machine in usable condition. By following precautionary procedures, you can prevent issues and prolong the life of your appliance. Below are a few tips on minor upkeep to keep specific appliances running properly.
Refrigerators
Most refrigerators with a water dispenser use filters to provide clean water with a fresher taste. Much like filters used in pitchers, these need to be replaced after a set period. Refer to your refrigerators Use & Care manual to know how long a filter typically lasts (industry average is about 3-6 months).
Dishwashers
Not all dishwashers can handle every type of dishes. Some cannot handle delicate items due to the extreme temperatures used in the cleaning process. Refer to the appliance manual and ensure it has a “delicate” or “china” setting to accommodate such items. If they do not these are susceptible to breakage than can clog/damage the unit and require (pricey) servicing.
Range Hoods
No matter the range hood, upkeep is key to keep it performing like new. For the ductless options, there are charcoal inserts that do a lot of the dirty work (filtering out all those smells and odors that go along with cooking). These filters must be replaced periodically, else they can become a safe haven for bacteria. Refer to your range hood manual to learn how often these should be replaced.
Ducted hoods also need upkeep. The metal filters trap grease efficiently, but will need to be washed clean in order to continue to work at peak efficiency. A sought-after feature are filters that are dishwasher safe to minimize the amount of work needed clean them out. Keep this in mind when you’re in the market for a new range hood.
